In response to the request of many, Suzanne Stabile is focused on the lives of nine others for Enneagram teaching at The Micah Center in 2012. Using the published works of these men and women who are well known in the Christian conversation about spiritual growth and transformation, she will teach each of the nine Enneagram Numbers.
In Suzanne's words ….
Feb. 18--- I chose to study Gandhi as a ONE because of a quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. “Gandhi was inevitable. If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable ….
We may ignore him at our own risk.”
March 10--- I chose Mother Teresa for the TWO because I believe she is much more complex than the coffee table books we are so familiar with and I think she can be for TWOs a guide for both sides of their well documented generosity … the selfish and the altruistic.
April 14-- Parker Palmer is the THREE. His body of work is a treasure for any THREE who wants to live a life that reaches far beyond the common understanding of success and what the world has to offer to any of us.
May 19--The FOUR is my friend Brian McLaren. The longing of what could be is enfleshed on his bones. Brian has managed to overcome the FOURs disdain for all that is not authentic by living a truly authentic life. He is the real deal!
June 2-- FIVEs are hard to know but Huston Smith has made his life and his lived experiences available to many. It is my joy to be reading about him and reflecting on his many adventures. He is, without doubt, the healthiest FIVE I have ever studied.
July 14-- Anne Lamott is my choice for SIX because she is funny, smart, honest and in love with Jesus. Lamott is uniquely able, at least in writing, to protect her fear as a phobic SIX with her aggression as a counter-phobic SIX. Fascinating!
Aug 18-- Matthew Fox is the SEVEN. He has explored life in a way that few do and he has been recording his experiences and ideas for several decades. Trying many things, standing up for his beliefs, being faithful to his call, willingly admitting his own mistakes and challenging the choices of others, he is both a mature and a quintessential SEVEN.
Sept 15-- I chose two EIGHTs. Tony Jones and Nadia Bolz-Weber are my friends. They are both young, brash, intelligent, stubborn, faithful, committed, well-spoken, ordained, energetic, creative, well-read, and did I say stubborn? They are not only my friends but they are also friends with each other and they disagree on many things …. as only EIGHTs can.
Oct 20-- The NINE was a difficult choice. I chose the Dalai Lama while wrestling with the questions: “Is he the Dali Lama because he is a NINE? Or is he a NINE because he is the Dali Lama?” In the end it didn’t matter. He is a NINE and his teachings are universal wisdom. I will find it hard to wait until the end of the year to share his NINEness as it is expressed in his writing.
Suzanne will begin the teaching on each of these Saturday’s with an overview of the Enneagram number taught in relation to the three stances; aggressive, dependent and withdrawing. That will be followed with chosen stories about these representative men and women and excerpts from their writings.
The focus of the afternoon will include:
v A time for questions and responses directed either to Suzanne or to the group of participants who claim the Enneagram number being taught that day
v An opportunity for those who are in close relationship to one who is the number being taught that day to ask questions of the group
v A chance to hear about some of the lessons learned by those in relationship with one who is the number being taught that day
Workshops: Saturday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Lunch will be provided
