SUMMARY:Unattended Sorrow
DESCRIPTION:"Those who walk in the way of integrity neither shun nor deny the existence of life's fiercest pain. In the most searing crises, they possess the wisdom to enter the pain and lament what they find."
                                                                                                                                                                                                 Steven Doughty

It's no secret that we do not grieve well in this culture. We rely on euphemisms for death, feel pressured to resume a "normal" life as soon as possible after a loss, define strength as being able to suppress our emotions and act as if we can make it fine on our own, thank you. Moreover, grief over other losses-the loss of innocence, through child abuse or rape, the loss of identity, health, jobs, dreams, severed relationships - as well as the relinquishments which come with age - are often minimized. But living this way, with layers of accumulated sadness, has debilitating, sometimes devastating effects. Jesus was a "man of sorrows, acquainted with grief." He lamented the degeneration of Jerusalem, was greatly disturbed in spirit over the death of his friend Lazarus, deeply grieved in Gethsemane, cried out his pain from the cross.

This workshop invites the participants into a sacred and healing space for encountering their"unattended sorrow" and releasng pain to the mercy and grace of God. Through prayer, scripture, ritual, refelction and analysis of our history of loss, we will honor the fullness of who we are and clear the path for becoming a new creation of Christ.

This workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Pat Saxon(see About Us/Staff and Volunteers for her bio) and the cost is a suggested donation of 30.00. Lunch will be provided and childcare will be offered if reservations are made in advance.
